Kilmeny Niland
Kilmeny Niland grew up in Sydney and studied at the Julian Ashton Art School. Always drawing from an early age, she achieved her first published book while still a teenager. Kilmeny worked in animation, children’s books (she has illustrated over 30 titles), wildlife art, miniatures, portraits, cards and prints. Several of her portraits were hung in the Portia Geach exhibition and a portrait of her mother, Ruth Park, was purchased by the National Portrait Gallery.

Kilmeny’s most well-known children’s books include Mulga Bill’s Bicycle, An Aussie Night Before Christmas, Blossom Possum, and most recently with Little Hare, Two Tough Teddies, which Kilmeny both wrote and illustrated. In August 2009 Little Hare will publish Kilmeny’s final picture book and sequel to Two Tough Teddies: Two Bad Teddies. As with all of Kilmeny’s books for children Two Bad Teddies captures the delights and fantasies of childhood. Two naughty teddies take over the toy box to try and win the undivided love and attention of a little girl named Mollie-Sue.

Sadly, Kilmeny passed away in February 2009. Her popular and much-loved children’s books will ensure that her talent as a children’s illustrator and author are remembered for many years to come.
